Story

“Fiona Porter” explores the evolving landscape of identity in the digital age. In a rapidly changing world, our personas multiply endlessly. Online, we have the freedom to be anyone and anything while in the real world, we are bound to our physical bodies.

This artwork represents the choices I made while constructing multiple fake personas, and having anonymous conversations with strangers in the digital world. I created several collages, blending real and AI-generated female figures.

Each carries an individual story, reflecting the emotions I felt while communicating with others across the web.

In the digital age, our true identities often lie somewhere between the pixels of our screens and the masks we choose to wear every day. We have the power to shape our online personas, constructing them from fragments of reality and elements of fantasy. Each digital interaction adds to our online identity, creating a complex and sometimes conflicting picture of who we are and who we want to be.

With this project, I wanted to find where our true identity genuinely hides. Is it in the curated avatars and profiles we present to the world, or is it hidden beneath these layers, in the raw, unfiltered moments we rarely share? By blending real and AI-generated images, “Fiona Porter” challenges the viewer to question the relationship between humans and machines nowadays.

The act of constant curation and interaction can be both empowering and exhausting, raising questions about the sustainability of our digital lives. How do these personas influence our mental health and our relationships with others?

In a world dominated by digital masks and crafted personas, do we ever truly know who we are beneath it all?
